Theme: Plant Pot
Name Origins: Budleaf, a portmanteau of 'bud' and 'leaf'; Mawvine, a portmanteau of 'maw' and 'vine'; and Carnivine, a portmanteau of 'carnivorous' and 'vine'.
Lore: In its unassuming bud form, Budleaf disguises itself as a regular potted plant with the intention of being fed by humans, or acting as an average carnivorous plant. As its roots multiply and grow in size, its pot-like shell breaks, and the much larger Mawvine will migrate to the closest dense woodland, seeking to feed on small animals and abandoned carcasses. Now feeding on much larger portions of meat, some of which have rotted, Carnivine's bile glands begin to produce and exude poison. Now standing at around ten-feet tall, Carnivine no longer needs its shrub-like body for camouflage, instead becoming fully ambulatory on three distinct vine "limbs". This final form is fast, lethally poisonous, and devoid of empathy.
Notes: I decided I wanted to draw another set of monsters, but didn't really have any idea in mind. My first thought was a teddy bear, but I couldn't really imagine how to progress from that idea, so I moved on to "potted plant". From that point, I made it all up as I went. Budleaf was likely inspired by Pokemon's Bellsprout, but after that the forms quickly became more like Little Shop of Horror's Audrey. I'm extremely happy with how the colours turned out, and the accidental journey towards beetroot hues really made the creature's carnivorous nature come alive.
